Sagar Sarthi 2015

Sagar Saarthi” was organized on 8-9 Feb 2014. This event was primarily intended for exposing the engineering students of Bhopal to the toppers of CAT / GATE / and HR Managers of PSU / Private Sector.

The two-days Career Guidance Workshop Sagar Saarthi concluded with a commitment of offering better Engineers and Managers to the society. This event was conducted as a result of long-pending demand of engineering students, to have a direct dialogue between the “aspirants” and “achievers” in various fields of career. Thus, six sessions of Sagar Saarthi’spread over 8-9 Feb included sharing of the ‘success stories’ by the 9 Achievers of CAT / GATE / PSU / Private Sector coming from pan-India, and their one-to-one interaction with around 1500 budding engineers coming from different colleges of Bhopal.

The inaugural day flinched with a highly motivating and interactive session by Mr. Prashant Likhite (GM-HR TCS, Mumbai) who enlightened the students with abundant knowledge. This was followed by expert lecture by Mr. Manoj Barthwal (DGM HR ONGC, Mumbai), who shared his journey with ONGC. Another session was conducted by Mr. Rizwan Ahmad Siddqui (DGM HR Sail, Delhi), who imparted the imperative guidelines that must be instilled in an individual to reach the peak. Later Mr. Vinit Gupta & Mr. Anoop Dhobal (GATE Toppers 2012) gave the landfills to crack the GATE with fabulous results. Towards the end of session, Mr. Sanjay Gora (Deputy Manager-HR SAIL, Delhi) shared the ups and downs in his career and various incidences that made him learn more and more in life. He inspired the students to learn lesson from small incidences.

On second day, the panel of experts included Jaskaran Sachdeva, Anshul Garg (100 percentilers of CAT 2012, coming from IIM Calcutta) and V.K. Giri, the Aptitude Trainer. Throughout the sessions, participants got to know about the patterns of various entrance exams, pre-requisites for these exams, comparisons of distant learning and regular courses offered, significance of various specializations offered in management programs etc. As mentioned by Anshul Garg, cracking the CAT is not-so-difficult task, provided if one manages to form a strong background. He added, this needs a conscious effort and long-term planning, followed by a focussed hard work before actually appearing for the exam. The other CAT topper Jaskaran Sachdev while answering a question from the audience mentioned that IIM should not be ‘the only choice’ for an MBA aspirant. There are a large number of good institutes in India, which offer MBA or PGDBM of high importance to the industry or corporate world. VK Giri advised the aspirants to maintain a balance between ‘dreams’ and ‘reality’, based on one’s individual capabilities. Thus, all the sessions were highly appreciated by the attendees, and they claimed, ‘Sagar Saarthi’ proved a real turning point in their preparations in their respective areas of career.
